Lake Marian, Fiordland

From the Lake Marian carpark, cross the swingbridge and continue to the spectacular series of waterfalls.

From the falls, the track becomes steep and sometimes muddy during the ascent to Lake Marian, which takes about 1.5 hours.

Lake Marian is an alpine lake in a hanging valley formed by glacial action, in one of the most beautiful settings in Fiordland. The lake is above the bush line and is surrounded by mountains with magnificent reflections if the weather is calm.

The track begins from the Lake Marian carpark on Hollyford Road, approximately 1 km from the Milford Sound road turn off, which is aproximately 87 km along the Milford Road from Te Anau.

The Key Summit, Fiordland

This is an easy half-day walk on the Routeburn Track offering spectacular views of Fiordland National Park.

This is the choice if you only have time for one walk in the area. There are amazing panoramic views over the Humboldt and Darran Mountains.

You will encounter beech forest, sub-alpine flora, prolific birdlife with robins, bellbirds and tomtits regular sights.

The walk starts at The Divide, which is about 85 km from Te Anau on the Milford Road. Plan to take about 1.5 hours to drive from Te Anau.
